Our client helps gaming businesses, mobile developers, and ecommerce stores monetize their products and services. The company’s recent solution – an app monetization and conversion platform – is a convenient tool for exchanging used devices and electronics for all kinds of in-app rewards, bonuses, discounts, and gift cards.

The Problem

When the client contacted us, they were in the early stages of app monetization platform development. Their promising MVP had just received the green light from investors and partners.

The client was ready to scale their MVP into a production-ready platform, aligning it with investor expectations, partner requirements, and market demands. There was, however, a bump on the road: local app monetization developers did not fit the client’s requirements.

The company cherry-picked Exoft after reading our Clutch reviews. They requested our .NET development and QA services, and within several weeks, we started building a mobile app and game monetization platform.

Our Cooperation

We started developing an app monetization platform in May 2023, finishing the project in a year and a half.

From our side, there were two team members: a .NET developer and a QA engineer. They worked closely with the company's CTO, communicating daily via Slack.

The company's CTO would create a backlog in advance and continuously expand it with new tasks. We estimated and prioritized each work item and outlined its dependencies and blockers.

Yet, the biggest game changer was that we adapted our services to the client’s dynamic needs. On-demand, we increased our engagement from part-time to full-time and brought on more specialists.

Our cooperation was based on quality, respect, and transparency: we completed the work on time and dealt with project roadblocks early on.

Our Services

When we joined the project, the client’s custom mobile game monetization solution had minimal functionality and quick fixes in code. Our mission was to enhance the product, adopt .NET best practices, and ensure fast and reliable system performance.

Initially, Exoft provided back-end & database development services. Later on, we also brought in our QA expertise.

As part of back-end development, we provided:

  • Performed a full audit and refactored the codebase according to best practices.
  • Created and optimized various features, like cart & checkout, order management, delivery tracking, catalog filtering, file generation, and price calculation.
  • Enabled role-based access and two-factor authentication (2FA)
  • Developed a customizable widget, enabling businesses to integrate it directly into their solution.
  • Added third-party APIs to gift cards, delivery services, email & SMS tools, product catalogs, and ecommerce platforms.
  • Designed and implemented a database, ensuring its scalability, security, and data standardization.

In terms of QA services, we:

  • Performed manual testing of each feature and integration prior to deployment
  • Set up automated testing based on Selenium and Request frameworks

Solution

The platform is a convenient tool for people to exchange their used devices for bonuses, discounts, and gift cards in games, ecommerce stores, and other entertainment services.

When they submit a device, the platform can estimate its exact price based on the brand, condition, storage capacity, and other characteristics.

Users receive bonuses in phases thanks to the reward system integration. It distributes a percentage of gains for each stage of device delivery.

For businesses, the solution comes with an easy-to-install widget that’s compatible with any platform or operating system. You can install and use it to monetize your ecommerce apps (namely, WooCommerce and Shopify), mobile apps, desktop solutions, or PlayStation and Xbox games. Also, the widget had customizable appearance, multiple currencies, and device filters (e.g., you can include or exclude certain brands).

Results

We helped the client grow from a basic MVP to a robust and high-performing app monetization platform in 18 months.

The solution is built using API-first architecture, allowing integrations with Amazon, United States Postal Service (USPS), WooCommerce, Shopify, and other in-demand services. In total, there are 14 integrations.

Our specialists optimized the overall app monetization platform development. We initiated the adoption of Jira, created documentation from scratch, analyzed system workflows, and improved knowledge sharing.
